High visitor numbers, vehicle traffic, food outlets, and general day-to-day use can result in a build-up of dirt, chewing gum, litter, moss, and staining across pedestrian walkways, car parks, and service areas. Over time this can significantly affect the presentation of a site, impacting both customer perception and tenant satisfaction. In this case, the property management team required a specialist cleaning contractor capable of delivering a full external deep clean across the estate. The objective was to reset the site to a high presentation standard through a coordinated programme of pressure washing, debris removal, canopy cleaning, and external surface restoration. The project needed to be delivered efficiently and safely while working around trading hours and maintaining access for retailers, deliveries, and visitors. 2 ## Mobilisation & Solution ICS Cleaning Services developed a structured estate reset programme designed to restore the appearance of the site while minimising disruption to daily retail activity. Our specialist cleaning teams carried out a comprehensive external cleaning programme which included pressure washing pedestrian areas, removing chewing gum deposits, clearing built-up debris, and restoring the appearance of external surfaces. Additional work included canopy cleaning above retail units, façade washing where required, and clearing gutters and drainage systems to ensure the buildings and walkways remained well maintained. By using professional high-pressure cleaning equipment and specialist surface cleaning machinery, ICS was able to deliver a visible improvement to the site within a short timeframe. 3 ## Delivery Model The project was delivered by trained specialist cleaning operatives equipped with industrial pressure washing systems and professional surface cleaning equipment. Work was carefully scheduled around trading hours to minimise disruption to retailers and customers. Early morning and out-of-hours cleaning ensured pedestrian routes, shop entrances, and car parks remained accessible throughout the programme. ICS supervisors coordinated the work on site, ensuring tasks were completed safely and efficiently while maintaining clear communication with property management representatives. This structured delivery approach allowed large external areas to be cleaned quickly while maintaining safe working practices across the estate. 4 ## QA Approach Quality and safety were key priorities throughout the estate reset programme. All works were carried out in accordance with site-specific risk assessments and method statements to ensure safe operation of pressure washing equipment and access to high-level areas. ICS supervisors monitored progress across the site and worked closely with property management teams to ensure all cleaning objectives were achieved. Regular communication and visual inspections ensured the final results met the presentation standards expected by both property managers and retail tenants. 5 ## Outcomes The deep cleaning programme delivered an immediate improvement to the appearance of the retail estate. Walkways, entrances, and shared public areas were restored to a cleaner and more professional standard, helping create a more welcoming environment for shoppers and visitors. The removal of built-up dirt, chewing gum, moss, and debris significantly improved the overall presentation of the site while helping to extend the life of external surfaces. The project demonstrated how a targeted estate reset programme can quickly restore the condition of retail environments while supporting the long-term maintenance strategy of the property.
