Working at ICS Cleaning

Independent Cleaning Services Limited is a regional commercial cleaning employer operating across Yorkshire & Lincolnshire. Here's what to expect when you join our team — from your first day to long-term career progression.

About ICS as an employer

Independent Cleaning Services Limited (ICS Cleaning) is a well-established regional commercial cleaning company, part of the SPS Group. We deliver contract cleaning, education cleaning, specialist cleaning and floor care across Yorkshire & Lincolnshire, with offices in Hull, Grimsby and Lincoln.

We hold ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 certifications, are an Alcumus SafeContractor-approved business, and hold BICSc Corporate Membership. These accreditations reflect our commitment to quality management, environmental responsibility and safe working practices — the standards that shape the experience of every employee on our team.

We work across a range of sectors including schools and academies, offices and commercial premises, retail environments, and factories and industrial sites. This means our teams gain experience across a variety of working environments — many of which are long-term, stable contracts.

PAYE employment

All roles are PAYE — you are employed directly by Independent Cleaning Services Limited with tax and National Insurance handled through payroll.

  • Equipment training for the tools you will use
  • Site-specific procedures and cleaning schedules
  • Ongoing support and refresher training

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about working at ICS Cleaning.

What training will I receive as a new ICS cleaner?

Every new starter receives a full induction covering safe working practices, site-specific procedures, equipment training, and COSHH/chemical handling where relevant. Ongoing support is provided by your supervisor and area manager.

Will I receive a contract of employment?

Yes. Every ICS cleaner receives a contract of employment from Independent Cleaning Services Limited. You are PAYE — not self-employed, not via an umbrella company, and not on a zero-hours arrangement unless the advert explicitly states casual hours.

Is uniform and equipment provided?

Yes. ICS provides full uniform and all the cleaning equipment, products, and materials you need for the job. You do not need to buy your own supplies.

What happens after I apply for a job?

After you apply, our recruitment team reviews your application. If your availability and location match the role, we'll contact you — often by phone first, then a short site meeting if needed. Checks (references, DBS where required) are completed before a start date is confirmed.

Are there opportunities to progress at ICS?

Yes. Many of our supervisors and area managers started as front-line cleaners. If you're reliable, committed, and want to progress, we actively support internal promotion — from cleaner to supervisor, and from supervisor to area management.

What support will I receive on site?

You'll have a named supervisor or manager, clear instructions for your site, and a simple process for raising any issues. Area managers also visit sites regularly to check standards and support the team.
